Having studied with Olivier Messiaen at the Conservatory of Paris, Tristan Murail became a professor of digital music at the Conservatory and professor of composition at IRCAM. He later composed a set of solo pieces for various instruments for his ‘Random Access Memory’ series, one of which, ‘Vampyr!’ is a rare classical piece for electric guitar. He has been a professor of composition at Columbia University (New York) since 1997.
