A student of Olivier Messiaen, Tristan Murail founded the ensemble L’Itinéraire with a group of composers in the 1970’. He became widely renowned for his research into acoustic phenomena. Then he teached digital music at the Conservatory and composition at IRCAM. The sound itself inspires him. He later composed a set of solo pieces for various instruments for his ‘Random Access Memory’ series, one of which, ‘Vampyr!’ is a rare classical piece for electric guitar. He has teached composition at Columbia University from 1997 to 2011, and now in Salzburg’s Mozarteum.
