Aram Khatchatourian is a Soviet-era composer of Armenian origin. During his life, he was labeled as one of the ‘official’ composers of the Soviet Union. Often influenced by the sounds of Armenian folk music, Khatchatourian’s works include concertos for violin, cello and piano. His largest-scaled works are the ballets ‘Sparticus’ and ‘Gayane,’ both of which contain some of the composer’s most well-known scores.
