Having won the first prize for violin at the Conservatory of Paris, Phillips-Varjabédian continued his musical studies in Crémont and New York. During his career, his gained his most notable recognition by being the only European finalist at the 1990 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow. Since 1995, he has been a member of the Wanderer Trio, which won first place for their record featuring works by Dvorak and Smetana.
