Ichiro Nodaira studied composition in his native city at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. He then attended the Paris Conservatory where he earned first prizes in composition, analysis and piano accompaniment. Since 1985, he has pursued a career as pianist and composer. He has performed as pianist with many reputable orchestras including the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France. Former artistic director of the Tokyo Sinfonietta, Nodaira has lectured at the University of Fine Arts and Music in Tokyo since 1990.
