Born in Weimar, Germany, Matthias Goerne is a baritone who has studied with Hans-Joachim Beyer, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Elisabeth Schwarzkopf. His repertoire spans across the baroque, contemporary and lieder styles of music. He is especially known for his tone, phrasing, diction and his commitment to legato singing. He is the recipient of the Wigmore Hall medal for his performance in London.
