Classical, Early
Born in Shanghai, Zhu Xiao Mei was introduced to music by her mother and by the age of eight, she was already appearing on radio and television. Her concert appearances are, by design, few and far between, and limited to demanding works–“mountains of the soul”. She completed her studies at the Peking Conservatory, leaving China, emigrating to the United States, and then Paris. She currently gives concerts all over the world, focusing on a repertoire which she limits to composers whom she cherishes: Scarlatti, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann. At its centre is Bach and his great cycles. Zhu Xiao-Mei teaches at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris.
